Capital Project: Replacement Facility for NH State Prison for Men

Originally built in 1878, with extensive renovations in the 1980s, the existing NH State Prison for Men is aged and deteriorating. This page provides information and updates as it relates to the capital project of replacing the NH State Prison for Men.

Timeline:

August 2024-Present:

  • NHDOC and DAS hosts meetings with DLR Group to begin project.

July 31, 2024: State of New Hampshire Department of Administrative Services (DAS), Division of Public Works Design & Construction issue "Notice to Proceed" letter to DLR Group, following G&C Approval at the July 10, 2024 meeting.

July 10, 2024: Governor & Executive Council approves close to $10,000,000 for design and engineering services for a replacement facility.

June 18, 2024: Commissioner Hanks presents the Department's FY2026-2027 Capital Project Proposals to the Governor's Office.

May 8, 2024: Commissioner Hanks testifies before House Finance Division I Work Session ref SB 476-FN.

April 17, 2024: Assistant Commissioner Raymond testifies before the House Public Works and Highways Committee Work Session ref SB 476-FN.

April 9, 2024: Assistant Commissioner Raymond testifies before the House Public Works and Highways Committee in support of SB 476-FN.

February 1, 2024: Commissioner Hanks testifies before the Senate Capital Budget Committee in support of SB 476-FN titled "making a capital appropriation to the department of corrections toward the replacement of the New Hampshire state prison for men"

April 12, 2023: Commissioner Hanks presents the need for a replacement facility while hosting the Governor & Executive Council breakfast meeting at the NH Correctional Facility for Women.

March 10, 2023: Commissioner Hanks and Director Hanson presents the Department's FY2024-2025 Capital Projects Updates for House Public Works and Highways Committee
